Our journey started thirteen years ago when my wife and I accepted Jesus as Savior. We were reached through the youth ministry of a church located near Ramkhamhaeng University. It was at that church that we were discipled and grew in the Lord. My wife began serving the Lord in full-time ministry 8 years ago; I began serving full-time from the time I accepted Jesus 13 years ago. We have come to truly believe and see that the Church is the hope of this world.

About three years ago, I began to sense the Lord leading us to plant a new church in Bangkok. It was a difficult decision for our family, as we knew we must say good-bye to people that we’ve loved, discipled and served with for over 10 years. Also, our home church was a wonderful prototype of powerful praise and worship, family atmosphere and good teaching and preaching. It was a secure place for us with a monthly salary and strong relationships with the members there. We also considered our son’s needs…at our home church he attended nursery and had a good group of friends. All of these things gave a strong sense of security to us.

Be that as it may, the Word of the Lord kept stirring in our hearts. Our burden grew stronger as we saw the desperate needs on the other side of Bangkok. We saw that there was no one there to reach those who do not yet know about Jesus Christ. I was reminded how Jesus Himself wept with compassion as He looked on the multitudes of people in Jerusalem, and said that they were like sheep who had gone astray. For the next 4-5 months, I began to do prayer walks in different parts of the city. On the third prayer walk in one area, near Ekkamai and Thong Loh roads, I felt the Lord confirm that this was where we were to begin our church plant. This is an area that is peculiar because of the ‘mix’ of people that work and lives here. We have an opportunity to reach the wealthy, the poor, and the working class. During this time I also had a vision of this new church—it was full of working class people—multitudes of people were pouring into the church and finding Jesus!

As we began this endeavor, we knew that we had no helpers, no funds and no meeting place. We began the church with three members: My wife, my little boy and myself---we stepped out together by faith and started Bangkok City Church in October of 2004. The Lord provided a place for us to meet at Baan Rai Coffee House, on the corner of Sukhumwit and Ekkamai roads.

For the first three weeks, no one showed up at our new church! It was just me and my Bible! I prayed and cried before the Lord! But, we still knew that God was with us, that He was empowering us, and that we were following Him.

As we were praying and asking the Lord for provision, we felt the Lord ask us, “What do you have---what’s in your hands?” I knew that my talents were in Media (developing websites, design, etc.), and my wife is gifted in English and is able to teach English, as well. So, this is how God is providing for our needs as we start this ministry.
